Gingivitis, Periodontitis or Gum Bleeding
Gingivitis or periodontitis needs medical treatment, as well as the proper gingival care on behalf of the patient. The inflammation of the gum is called gingivitis. If this condition includes bone loss, it is called periodontitis. This gum disease can be accompanied by bad breath and bleeding. This fact can limit or modify social or work relationships and must be treated as soon as possible to avoid secondary consequences.
Proper periodic dental hygiene can prevent this condition. The cause of the inflammation is the presence of plaque (contamination) between the gum and the tooth, in the area called the gingival sulcus. The deeper the sulcus (periodontal pocket), the greater the risk of relapsing and the more difficult it is to treat
If the gum has contracted excessively or is not thick enough it may be advisable to make a gum graft (connective tissue).
In cases of advanced periodontitis, the realization of BOPT crowns can help the treatment and lengthen teeth life.
Gingival scaling and periodontal surgery are the preferred treatments in most advanced cases.
