Endodontics (root canal treatment)

Endodontic treatment is perceived as “internal” care of the tooth. This means that the tooth is already damaged and its core will have to be treated in order to prevent infection and preserve its functioning. Quality root canal treatmentis of great importance because it allows preserving one‘s natural teeth. When a tooth is very sensitive (hypersensivity) or needs to be prepared (cut), thinned, prior to the placement of a crown, it is advisable to carry out endodontics to treat  sensitivity or prevent it from appearing. Another indication that treatment is needed is pulpal necrosis. The endodontist (specialist in endodontics) will perform the treatment with no risk after analyzing the diagnostic tests.

Requires infiltrative anesthesia:

  • Anesthesia will last for about an hour.

Duration of the session:

  • About 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the number of root canal treatments.

Number of appointments or sessions:

  • It is done in a session. Subsequently, the filling is performed, which can also be done during the same visit.

Recovery:

  • It is immediate. The patient may notice sensitivity in the treated tooth during the first week.
