Tapered (conical) abutment
The abutment of the implant is the part of the restoration that interacts with the gum.
From the esthetic and functional point of view, it is the most important part to prevent complications such as periimplantitis (inflammation of the gum) and recession (retracted gingiva). If the correct abutment is chosen the gum stabilizes over time if this is not the case, it does not.
At Dental Esthetic BCN and BORG we are leaders in design and research on the beneficial effects of conical abutments (BOPT technique) that enable the gum to increase in thickness over time and protect it from recession.
The placement of the abutment and the implant is usually done at the same time during surgery. They can also be placed later.
